Mozart Requiem on old axes:

Mozart’s Requiem, K. 626
Sunday at 11am. St. Bartholomew’s Choir.
William K. Trafka, conductor

On this weekend, the fifth anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, we offer music from Mozart’s great Requiem sung in memory of those who perished in the violence of that day.

I will be playing my old, low pitch (A=430) teeny-bore trombone in this perfomance on Sunday 9/10 at 11AM along with an entire orchestra of "period instrumentalists". It's a very interesting sound if you haven't heard it before.

Fame Becomes Others, Not Me

Started the new DELIGHTFUL show: "Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me"! I have steady gainful employment for the immediate future! The tunes (by Marc Shaiman) are great, Matin Short and the cast are hilarious ( even to this jaded Broadway vet ) the conductor is relaxed and rock-solid and the band is burnin', as always! "Nice Work If You Can Get It..."! I'm definitely going to see this one, which will be the first. What?

Well, they don't give you free tickets because they are trying to MAKE money. So you have to take off a show ( forfeiting your pay for that performance ) and pay for a ticket, the same amount everyone else has to pay. It always feel like a double financial whammy so I've never actually seen any show I've done, as I haven't felt like any of them were worth the monetary kick in the groin. ( won't now launch into the interesting topic of perceiving something like a show ENTIRELY by sound and what that does for/against you ) This one is different! It's good!

Come and see it at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on 45th Street. Say "hi" into the pit!

He Proves Once Again He's No Good In The Sack....

When I go on vacation, I really do go on vacation! Ahem....took the family back to the Heartland to a big, crazy reunion in ND that featured me in a sack race! Got to drive around in the middle of nowhere on some gravel roads showing the kids the towns their grandparents grew up in: Maddock, (pop. 1,000) Pembina (pop. 700) and St. John (pop. 250). Saw some great old architecture (interesting churches) and the family castle. Bought an antler whistle. Sent oldest kids to International Music Camp, where I was once a student and later a teacher, though some years ago now. Gained 8 pounds, at least! Got back just in time to start the new job: "Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me" at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre!
